Theater & Wine Ahhh… Ashland – Oct. 7th – 9th 2018

This one is for our wine lovers… Good Friends, Good Food, & Great Wine! Southern Oregon’s latitude and prevailing oceanic winds create a 7-month Mediterranean growing season that distinguishes it from all other west coast (and American) growing regions and this uniquely defines, identifies and unifies them as an ideal place to grow wine grapes. Roam from the Rogue Valley, all the way down Interstate 5 to the, Applegate Valley and you’ll find about as many types of good wine as you would in your beloved bottle shop. It’s a tough decision who to feature on this tour. Oh, yea the entertainment is top notch as well!

Day 1 – Sunday October 7th – Home to Ashland
South, we go! First stop, Kriselle Cellars… Enjoy lunch and a glass of vino while admiring 25 acres of rolling vineyards. Their tasting room is situated next to the beautiful Rogue River on a very unique site. Next, it’s Belle Fiore Vineyards… This beautiful and elegant expression of French architecture and design will inspire you with magnificent views of the Rogue Valley. Enjoy premium Belle Fiore’s award-winning Wines. Our home for the next two nights is the Ashland Springs Hotel situated in the heart of Ashland… Built in 1925 and lovingly restored, this downtown landmark is a haven of taste reminiscent of small European hotels. You’ll have some time to rest up before we head to dinner. Next Oregon Shakespeare Festival presents “The Book of Will”… William Shakespeare’s been dead for three years. His closest friends and fellow actors deeply miss him and his beautiful plays. When a pirated, badly botched Hamlet (“To be or not to be, there’s the point . . .”) plays on a nearby stage, they realize Shakespeare’s lines are disappearing into the forgetful memory of time. What they need is a book—a definitive copy of his original plays, but to make one, they’ll have to battle an unscrupulous publisher, a boozy poet laureate and their own mortality. Day 2 – Monday October 8th – Ashland Local Touring
After a leisurely morning we’ll head to Schmidt Family vineyards… Cal’s great love and passion for wine and wine making made grapes the obvious crop. Cal grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas. A successful businessman, he began taking classes in viticulture and wine making in his spare time. In 2000, the old Bennett Ranch on the fertile Kubli Bench was purchased and became the setting for what is now the Schmidt Family Vineyards. Toast of the Coast 2018 has given their 2016 Estate Viognier the award for “Best of the Applegate Valley” and a Gold with 93 Points! We’ll continue to Paschal Winery… Set on 22 beautiful acres in the outskirts of Ashland. The vineyard was planted in late 80’s… Then the winery happened… For Paschal Family it is about the journey not the destination… Enjoy some of their delicious wines while taking in the fantastic view of the valley. We’ll head back to Ashland where you’ll have some free time to enjoy the town or rest up before we head to the Oregon Cabaret Theater… they have delighted their patrons for the last 32 years with live shows and elegant meals prepared in their in-house restaurant. We’ll take in the hilarious play Picasso at the Lapin Agile… This long running Off-Broadway absurdist comedy from the mind of funnyman Steve Martin places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. Day 3 – Tuesday, October 9th – Ashland to Home
We’ll head home the next morning, with a few stops along the way including lunch at Silvan Ridge Winery… Eugene’s first winery opened as “Hinman Vineyards” in the 70s, becoming one of approximately 35 operational wineries statewide. Its stellar wines propelled the novice winery to the forefront of Oregon’s burgeoning wine industry, securing its place among Oregon’s top producers by the 80s. Today, the winery has been renamed “Silvan Ridge” and is owned by Elizabeth Chambers. Led by their exquisite Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, a delightfully effervescent early Muscat, and other micro-production varietal wines.
