Day 1 – Tualatin, OR to Coos Bay, OR
After everyone’s onboard, we’re off to Old Town Florence! This quaint fishing village is situated on the banks of the Siuslaw River. It’s beautifully restored and home to several restaurants, art galleries, specialty shops, and more. Enjoy lunch on your own, and shopping and sightseeing here today. Next, we’ll head over to the Oregon Connection – House of Myrtlewood, one of the oldest businesses in Coos Bay, it is filled with original Myrtlewood creations, unique gifts, and great fudge! Then, it’s off to check into our hotel. You’ll have some time to relax and freshen up before our dinner tonight – a crab feed! Mill Casino (D)
Day 2 – Coos Bay – Local Touring
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel this morning, before our tour of the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum Interpretive Center. The Museum is meant to be a cultural gathering place, both thought provoking and fun! It offers 5000 square feet of changing exhibits exploring the unique, sometimes hidden history of the Southern Oregon Coast. Your afternoon is free for play in the Casino and lunch on your own. Next, we’ll be whisked away to a secluded and undisclosed beach, where we’ll be set free to frolic along the beach line to find our very own Oregon Blown Glass Floats! Everyone is guaranteed a float. Here we’ll meet our amazing local guide, Marty Giles, she will give us an informative beach talk. Then Marty will share the history and lore of the area, as we visit Charleston, Cape Arago, and Shore Acres. She’ll enlighten us with the fascinating real-life story of Louis Simpson, and the mansion and gardens he built as a Christmas present for his wife, Cassie. Their tale is one of romance and tragedy, played out on this lonely wild spot overlooking the roaring Pacific. You’ll also have some time to wander Shore Acres State Park on your own… More than 300,000 vibrant lights, (almost all L.E.D.), make this the brightest and most beautiful place on the West Coast! This years’ lighted displays include: Pelicans, Puffins, Jellyfish, Shore Acres’ Cranes, Life-size leaping Orca whale, Life-size spouting Gray whale, Tulips, Rhododendron, Rose, Dahlia, Dungeness crab, Sea Star, Sea Urchin, Sea Anemone, Sea horse, Octopus, Kelp, Frogs, Butterflies, dragonfly, playful sea lions, leaping frog in pond, ship, fuchsia flower and hummingbird, Koi carp and more! Later, we’ll dine at one of our favorites, Benetti’s Italian Restaurant. It’s delicious, and most of the recipes originated from Joe’s family! Mill Casino (B, D)
Day 3 – Coos Bay, OR to Tualatin, OR
After our final breakfast at the hotel, we’ll depart for Yachats, Newport, and home. In Yachats, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious lunch at the Adobe Inn, with breathtaking ocean views! Next, we’ll drive up the coastline to Newport, and have some fun at the Next, it’s the Pacific Maritime Museum… it offer a closer connection to the fascinating history of this coastal region. Delve deeper into the past in the Research Library. Check out the News & Events section for programs that bring history alive and explore issues affecting life in Lincoln County. Alas, it’s time to bid our fellow travelers adieu, as we head for home this afternoon. (B, L)
